Students Awarded Daimler Trucks North America Scholarship
Phoenix, Ariz. – The Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Foundation announced today that three
students have been awarded the Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA)/Bob Fyda - Finish First
Scholarship. Lewis Michael from Cove, Ore., David Dumbaugh from Mesa, Ariz. and James Decker
from Kansas City, Mo. have each received a $2,600 scholarship, half of the tuition cost, to take part in
the 12-week DTNA Finish First program.
The DTNA/Bob Fyda - Finish First Scholarship was created to recognize the memory and
accomplishments of Bob Fyda, a respected DTNA dealer principal and leader within the DTNA
service network. The Finish First program is designed to teach future DTNA technicians how to
maintain, diagnose and repair DTNA products. Graduates of this program receive credit from DTNA
for all required base courses and are recognized by DTNA as trained service technicians.
“Bob Fyda would be proud knowing DTNA and the entire dealer network have assisted students in
continuing their educational needs,” said Kimberly Berg, Program Manager, Technical Training for
Daimler Trucks North America. “In addition, this scholarship is another stride to help the future of our
service network.”
The UTI Foundation Daimler Trucks North American Scholarship program will continue to select
students who are seeking assistance with the tuition costs for the 12-week DTNA Finish First
program. The scholarship will be prorated over the term of the 12-week program. Students need to
complete the application no later than six weeks prior to each DTNA Finish First program. The
remaining 2008 program start dates are Oct. 27 and Dec. 8, and various start dates in 2009.
“The scholarships created by DTNA give students the opportunity to benefit from the additional
training in this unique DTNA Finish First program,” said Veronica Meury, vice president and executive
director of UTI Foundation. “The knowledge they learn from this program will give these students the
cutting edge skills they will need to succeed in their careers.”
