$12,000 Awarded to UTI Rancho Cucamonga Student
3/17/2010
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. March 18, 2010 – Hard work does pay off. Just ask Andy Le, the 2010 recipient of the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Foundation Roger Penske Outstanding Student of the Year award. He will receive a $12,000 cash award to repay education debt or buy tools.
Le has had to overcome many challenges in his life including immigrating to the U.S. from Vietnam, learning English, and working minimum-wage jobs to make ends meet. His hard work culminates this spring when he graduates from the UTI Rancho Cucamonga campus and starts his career as an auto technician for Mercedes Benz in Beverly Hills.
“To be recognized by Roger Penske for teamwork and perseverance is a great honor,” said Le, “As I begin my new career as an automotive technician, the support of Mr. Penske, my instructors and my family inspires me to continue to help others achieve their dream of a technical education and a successful automotive career.”
Roger Penske donated $100,000 to create the annual outstanding student awards for individuals approaching graduation who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement and are recognized as consummate team-players by fellow students and UTI instructors. UTI, a provider of technical education for individuals pursuing careers as professional automotive, collision repair, diesel, marine or motorcycle technicians, encourages students who fit the criteria and gain the endorsement of an instructor to self-nominate for the award.
“Universal Technical Institute educates exceptional individuals, and these graduates are highly sought-after throughout the automobile and diesel service industry,” said Roger Penske, chairman of Penske Corporation. “It is my hope these awards will encourage students to pursue excellence, aim higher and be there to help others.”
“Andy is a great role model, he is always putting his best foot forward, volunteers his time to help fellow students find a job and has perfect attendance. Roger Penske appreciates excellence and is dedicated to helping hard workers succeed,” said Veronica Meury, vice president and executive director of UTI Foundation. “His personal contributions help deserving students like Andy follow their passion to pursue successful careers.”
