Universal Technical Institute Foundation Establishes Robert D. Hartman Opportunity Scholarship to Recognize Lifetime Achievement

PHOENIX, April 22, 2010 – The Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Foundation today announced the
creation of the Robert D. Hartman Opportunity Scholarship in recognition of the lifetime achievement
of former UTI president and CEO Robert D. Hartman. Two $5,000 grant-in-aid scholarships will be
awarded annually to assist recent high school graduates who are enrolled to begin courses at either
the Avondale, Ariz., Rancho Cucamonga or Sacramento, Calif. Universal Technical Institute campus
(NYSE: UTI).
Students who fit the criteria, complete the application and gain the endorsement of an employer,
guidance counselor or teacher are encouraged to apply for the award. The UTI Avondale, Ariz.,
Rancho Cucamonga and Sacramento, Calif. campuses provide technical education for individuals
pursuing careers as professional automotive, collision repair, diesel, or motorcycle technicians.

the service repair industry,” said Hartman. “It’s an honor to have a scholarship program in my name
that will help students achieve their dream of a technical education.”
